Loki the Norse God - 05 by scargeear Loki the Norse God - 05 by scargeear
I love not only Thor and Avengers movies but also Norse myths a lot. So I decided to make a viking costume for my Loki. As he is the God of Fire I chose reds, oranges and yellows for the costume.

Materials used: linen, wool and cotton fabrics, natural leather and suede, embroidery is done by hand, metal pieces are made of copper and oxidized with 'liver of sulfur' patina.
A set of Elder Futhark runes is a nice addition to the set.

Reconstruction of the costume from Mammen, Denmark, was chosen as a main reference, and I used a lot of other sources on the viking clothes of X-XI centuries.

Loki is Whispering Grass Thomas head on Soom Supergem body. The head is sculpted by me.

Thank you!
Don't know, really! Actually, one sources tell us he is a god of fire, others say it's Logi, and Loki just tries to fight it (unsuccessfully). Marvel always had their own universe though and incorporated tales and myths to their own tastes.

So, who he is?

He is a Jötunn, a Giant. Not a frost Giant. They are from Jötunheimr, while frost giants live in Niflheim. He was very skilled in magic, and a trickster. But he was not a god. Even though he was counted among the Aesir. My theory in that is that he was Foster brother to ODIN! Marvel changed most of this.

"In Norse mythology, Loki, Loptr, or Hveðrungr is a god or jötunn (or both)."
Well, he is worshipped by many people so technically it makes him a God even if he's a Jötunn originally))

He is "Counted" as a god. But he still isn't an Aesir (god). Besides, you can worship anyone as a god. And I think that Loki is worshipped because he is foster brother to Odin. If he weren't, then he wouldn't be recognised as one of the Aesirs.

I agree that they most likely the foster brothers. There is so much common between them, unlike other Gods: both are mages, they often travel together, etc. I've read that version too.

I'm sorry but it's hard for me to retell with simple words into English the studies on the Norse mythology I've read.
Surely, Loki is worshipped not because he's Jotunn but because he lived in Asgard with other Gods, was very close to Odin, provided Aesir with many artifacts, etc. etc.
